Essena O'Neill: can kids spot covert marketing by social media stars

The Advertising Standards Authority recently banned an Instagram video because it hadn’t made clear it was an advertisement for a Britvic beverage.

- Australia model and social media star hit headlines when she decided to quit social media
-  She explained stage photos in which there were promotions from companies paying her
she could could be paid up to 2000 austrailian dollars for each post
- In a recent survey of 16-19 year old , most said they spend time using websites ans apps such as YouTube
- Brands are now partnering with people who have a large fan following

I think that this is a marketing strategy in which companies should be able to partner with people with huge social media followings to promote their products. I feel its up to guardians of childrens to carry out any teaching on how products are marketed to audiences of fan followings

American Isis Twitter scene' reveals social media's power to radicalise

The study’s authors also found that in the month and a half since its conclusion, there has been a shift away from Twitter toward platforms such as Instagram, Google+ and Snapchat.

- Islamic state sympathisers prefer Twittern to any other platform
- Having a Twitter account suspended has bceome a badge of honour for US based Isis Supporters
During the six-month study, researchers monitored almost 300 accounts
-The activity showed how social media plays a crucial role in their radicalisation and, at times, mobilisation to fight in Iraq

I think that these Twitter accounts play a major part in getting people to leave their families in which go to the Islamic State to fight for ISIS. Also Anonymous have taken down 20,000 accounts.
