new/digital media stories

1) The Spectator records highest ever total circulation

David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Fraser Nelson at the the Spectator summer party in 2010.

- The Spectator has recorded its highest ever total circulation figures after racking up 71,707 print and digital sales for the last 6 months of 2015
- The New statesman saw biggest rise in both print, increasing copy sales 9% to 31,465 and digital which has tripled to more than 1900
- Pirate Eye which is available in print remain way ahead of the UK focused competition, selling 229,777 copies, an increase of 4.7% on same period of 2014
- Economist saw small declines in its UK print sales, down just over 7% to 16

In my opinion, it is expected that a magazine publishing organisation will do well with the development of new/digital media. However I'm surprised to find out that Pirate Eye who are a print only news organisation did better than The Spectator.

2) Cosmopolitan magazine overtakes Glamour in battle of glossies

Cosmopolitan magazine

- cosmopolitan magazine has increased its circulation to more than 400,000 to overtake rival glamour
- slashing its cover price to £1 and upping the number of copies it gives away to nearly 100,000
- The magazine which is owned by Hearst UK relaunched in October, cutting its price from £3.80
- price drop helped the magazine organisation sell more copies in the UK from 76000 to more than 215,000
- total circulation was up by 57% which may have been because of targeting a wider
- Apparently are also gaining 4.8 million unique users every month and through snapchat discover

In my opinion Cosmopolitan have done well because of the social media advertising on snapchat. As a result the snapchat discover has helped people who would have never heard of Cosmopolitan to find out about them, this then will mean more people would be interested in buying the magazine issues.
